Top 9-free Meal Challenge!

Dairy, Egg, Soy, Wheat, Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Shellfish, Sesame, and Fish.


These nine are the most common criminals in the food world. While there may be select cases of rare food allergies, the majority of people have issues with one of these nine villains. Some unfortunate people suffer at the hands of more than one.


You wouldn't believe how angry people can get over having to do without certain foods.


For Food Allergy Awareness Week, I am going to abstain from these nine today, May 12th, eating special meals I've thought up. While I only have a dairy allergy, I'm going to join my allergy brethren in avoiding the Nine Allergenwraiths. (Lord of the Rings reference. Great books and movies.)

I know you're thinking, "DANGITWHATISTHERELEFTTOEAT?!?!?!"


Fear not. You can find good ideas for recipes and substitutions at the link I've posted below. I tried to create my own meals for the day as well. The ingredients for the meals are below, along with photos. Hopefully you'll feel inclined to join in the crusade, and we shall feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large...(rest of text eliminated). Maybe just something flavorful (and safe).

BREAKFAST: Apple Pie Oatmeal (GF Rolled Oats, Apples, Rodelle GF Vanilla, WayFare DF Butter, Good Karma Flaxmilk, Cinnamon, Brown & White Sugar)

LUNCH: DF Cheese Quesadillas with Black Bean Salsa and Guacamole (GF Corn Tortillas, DF Daiya Cheddar Cheese, Good Karma Flax Sour Cream, Ortega Chiles, Winco Black Beans, Summer & Inside Diced Tomatoes, Sicilia Lime Juice Concentrate, Avocado, Garlic/Onion Powder, Salt/Pepper, Cumin, Canola Oil, rough chopped red & yellow tomatoes, purple cabbage, red radish, cilantro)

DINNER: Basil-Pepita Pesto with GF Spaghetti (Follow Your Heart DF Parmesan Cheese, Bertolli Olive Oil, basil, Good Karma DF Sour Cream, Barilla GF Spaghetti, pepitas [pumpkin seeds], Garlic/Onion powder, garlic cloves, salt/pepper)

DESSERT: Strawberry Smoothie (TreeTop Apple Juice, fresh strawberries, frozen strawberries, honey, dash of salt, Rodelle GF Vanilla)


HAVE COURAGE! All of these recipes are very flexible with quantities...we add things to taste/preference. Breakfast apples with vanilla, DF butter, cinnamon, and white/brown sugar were done in the microwave for 4-5 minutes. Cheese quesadillas were all done at once in the microwave in a stack like the leaning tower of Pisa, wrapped in 3 damp paper towels, for 2-3 minutes. Salsa was done in the Vitamix blender (beans in last after first blending of all other ingredients). Guacamole was done with a standard fork. Pesto sauce was made in a food processor (all ingredients at once). All of these recipes are also very fast.
